I think you know but I'm back at home for summer. I've been doing some spring cleaning. I felt very accomplished when I cleared three shelves on one of my bookcases (and by cleared, I mean I threw some things away and moved the things I was unsure about to another pile - to be dealt with later.) The satisfied feeling faded when I spoke to my sister who reminded me of my other bookcase, and my boxes, and my dresser, and everything else. Haha. Oh sisters. You just have to love the gentle way they tell you to get your act together. [=

Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I had an idea to do a Creation-A-Day challenge for July because I have a friend who is doing one for his poetry. I mentioned it to Mommy and she suggested that I make it a Creation-Every-Other-Day challenge for my sanity. Makes sense. However, I shall not do a daily or every-other-daily challenge. I'll just keep creating things.

This week I made a tam, earrings and a surprise.

1. Crochet tam

{Pattern}

I'm still trying to make the perfect hat for my hair. Remember when I ran out of yarn? I tried again and looked for the simplest pattern I could find. The one I used was only 9 rows. Can someone say, "Score!" Bulky yarn is fun because it's so big so you just do more with each little stitch you do. That wasn't the most literate thing I've said, I know, but it's true. Bulky yarn rules. Except when it doesn't. It was harder for me to see my stitches. It was mainly me trying a ting for each new row. It worked though so no complaints. I added another row after 8 because it was smaller than I wanted it to be.

Mommy was my photographer for the tam. I tried taking some artsy photos of the tam itself and decided to hang it from the bush. Why? Not sure. I didn't go as well as I thought. Haha. Here's a shot:

Let's move on.

2. The surprise

This is me being lame. I can't post pictures of the surprise or tell you what it is because it wouldn't be a surprise anymore. I will say that it's a peyote pendant and that I made it during the Germany vs France match on Friday. I'll let you know when it's not a surprise anymore and post pictures then.

3. Sequined Earrings!

Friday was Independence Day for the US. I'm not American so I don't do the red, blue and white. I decided to make earrings with Jamaican colours. I made a peyote base - 2 drop peyote, 8 beads across, either 24 or 25 rows - then I added the sequins. They are like the bracelets I made a while back. (April 2012 and June 2012 - that's 2 years ago. Kinda cray.)

The beads and sequins:

The earrings:

I'm proud of these earrings because I didn't look at a pattern to do them. It may seem insignificant but it's a big deal for me. Slightly deep moment. When I finished them and looked at them in the mirror I thought they were loud and obnoxious and childish. People wouldn't like them, etc. I was about to ask mum if she thought they were the above but I changed my wording because Positive Thinking and We Are What We Eat. Not the last one. I just said that because tired.

The point! is that I'm learning about not worrying about what people think or say or list and working on doing what I want/what I feel led to do.

The song is "Rockstar" by A Great Big World. I find the beat fun and catchy. I like what it's about. The whole idea that at one point in our lives we wanted to be Rockstars or Astronauts or Prime Ministers. Maybe we still do.

And maybe we will never figure it out
I got a feeling that's what life's all about
I'm learning anything is possible now

Thanks for reading. Truly though. I appreciate people who take the time out to read my words.
